Creating Deep Linked Assignments
The deep link is designed to take the user directly to a specified activity in Foliotek (i.e. Program Content, Project Templates, Portfolio Templates).
VIDEO: Deep Linking Assignment Creation
To add a deep link, click on the course which requires a link to a Foliotek activity. If you are utilizing both content and assignment links in the same course, we recommend that you create separate Content areas for each, one for Foliotek Content and one for Foliotek Assignments, to avoid confusion on the part of the students. For information on creating Foliotek Content links, see the Creating Deep Linked Content page.
In the top section of the left menu, click on the Content area you wish to add the link(s) to.
After clicking on Content, hover over Build Content to open the dropdown menu, then click on the link to Foliotek Assignment Selection. Your Blackboard Administrator must create the Content link to Foliotek. If you do not see a link for creating Foliotek Assignments, contact your administrator for assistance.
Blackboard will now connect to Foliotek and display the Content Selection options that are available for you to choose from. To create an assignment that is scoreable or one you want to give a completion score to when the assignment is viewed and submitted by the student, use the Create an ASSIGNMENT option on the left. While it is possible to select the Create a LINK TO CONTENT option, this is not advised. Any items selected from the LINK TO CONTENT area would not show up in Canvas as scoreable work.
After selecting Create an ASSIGNMENT, you will
have three options:
- Activities: select from content items such as learning modules, projects, and quizzes
- Project Templates: this would be a project created from a pre-existing template
- ePortfolio Templates: here you would find templates for creating portfolios
Clicking on a box will allow you to select that type of item to add to the assignment area. The Activities button will show you the available categories and groups from which you can select activities. In the Project Templates area you will need to know the specific name of the template you want in order for your search to be successful. The same is true for the ePortfolio Templates area, you need to make a specific search for the template you want. After you click on the box for the item you need and select the particular item you were looking for, a Confirmation box will appear.
If the activity or template selected does not contain any submittable work (ie. questions to answer or files to upload), the assignment will be given a completion grade when submitted by the student. The grade will automatically appear in the gradebook, you won't have to do anything.
If the item does contain submittable work, the Confirmation screen will give you the option to auto submit the assignment as completed. This check box, when selected, automatically submits the completion score to the gradbook when the assignment is completed by the student. If you choose not to check the box, then an assignment will be created in the gradebook and you will need to evaluate the work and enter a score for it.
Read the information closely to make sure you know what item you selected and how this item will function in the student account, then click the checkmark button to proceed. If you feel you made the wrong selection, click the X in the upper right corner of the Confirmation box to cancel the selection and start over.
While the activity is being added, a Submission screen will appear and then automatically disappear once the process is finished. Once the Submission screen closes, you will be taken back to the Content list in Blackboard.
After the assignment has been set up, do not add a description to it or edit the title as these actions will break the link to Foliotek and the assignment will not work. Once the assignment is created, Blackboard adds a column in your gradebook for it. It is permissible to make edits to the assignment, including changing the point value for the assignment, in the Full Grade Center; this will not adversely affect the assingment link.
The selected activity will now be visible to the students in your course. They will be able to acces the activity, complete it, and submit it for evaluation.
